It is well worth doing your research into this critical area of infrared sauna design and construction, because at the heart of your decision to buy an infrared system is the infrared heat source itself. Physiotherm has unique advantages in a number of areas of element design and application:

1) For maximum therapeutic efficiency and to ensure you get the results you want from every session, Physiotherm’s steadiflow™ elements give you infinite Infrared control (much like a dimmer on a light). This guarantees an uninterrupted flow of Infrared energy, even when the intensity is turned down. Physiotherm is the only cabin on the market that uses steadiflow™technology. Other cabins use thermostatic control (like a switch) to regulate the heat source, the heaters turn on and off throughout your session. This reduces the amount of health giving Infrared by more than half through the session.

2) The patented lavatech™ tubes, the heart of the steadiflow™ system, ensure minimal local heat stress whilst maximizing Infrared flow. Within Infrared therapy, it is not about the heat, it is about the constant Infrared flow.
Because of the uninterrupted flow of Infrared the elements cause sweating at temperatures as low as 25-40C. Other Infrared saunas have to rely on higher air temperatures (usually between 50 and 60C) to overcome inefficiencies created by thermostatic control systems and inferior IR heat sources.

3 ) The unique steadiflow™ elements are able to vary the emitted wavelength giving you the most complete therapeutic experience possible. That means you have control over the intensity of infrared which suits your body best, no other brand offers this level of personal control over your infrared therapy session.

4) The specific design of the Physiotherm elements with patented mirror technology ensures maximum Infrared coverage and targeted Infrared therapy to the entire spinal region. Physiotherm cabins also feature large 1m high heaters directly in front of the body where most other brands fail with optimal Infrared penetration.

5) Physiotherm does not fit Infrared heaters along the back of the lower legs for health reasons, in order to not impact on the veins e.g. in instances of varicose veins. Instead of that, Physiotherm provides a warming mat (infrared surface radiator) to provide pleasant warmth from below the feet.

How about these new flat carbon heaters?

Physiotherm considered in 2003 to add flat carbon elements into their cabins. After extensive research they chose to stick with the steadiflow™ elements due to the following findings:

• Infrared efficiency dropped dramatically when sitting more than 20cm away from the elements. Meaning much of the infrared heat sources are not warming the body efficiently but simply warming the air.
• The elements have to be thermostat controlled which meant that cabin temperatures would have to be higher to achieve a similar level of sweat production.
• Due to themostat controlled elements and the heater distance from the body, Infrared penetration was reduced by over 50%.
• To create the internal temperatures and Infrared flow required for the elements to be effective, the majority of the cabin interior needed to be lined with the elements. This includes heaters in the seat front that heats the back of the legs which is not well tolerated by some people.
• Wooden brackets holding heater panels in place created a trap for dust and bacteria.
• Sweat stains on the elements were difficult to clean.
