Welcome to MagMed’s October Newsletter. We hope you have been enjoying the wonderful sunny Autumnal weather over the past few days.

As the cold starts to seep into the bones, aches and pains increase and the darker longer nights add to the desire to hibernate in a warm space until spring! The body literally starts to crave the warmth and our Infrared Cabins are just the ticket unless, like the birds you fly south for the winter!

October is therefore the perfect time to get your body prepared for the winter by boosting the immune system and keeping the muscles and joints warm within your infrared cabin.

The cold weather reduces the body’s circulation to your extremities meaning your muscles and joints receive less blood. This reduces healing and the flow of nutrients to the cells, all this results in a greater likelihood of injury, pain and ill health during the colder months, not to mention the greater chance of colds and flu – yuk!

This month we will look at why the Physiotherm infrared system is so beneficial for helping overcome aches and pains and also healing injury.

So we hope you enjoy this latest issue of our health and well-being newsletter and take all the steps you can to stay healthy over the coming months.

All the best for a warm and toasty Autumn!

Healing injury and reducing age related complaints

Why Physiotherm sessions are good to overcome aches and pains and also healing injury:

One of the main benefits that people find from regular use of a Physiotherm cabin is the effective pain relief and also better healing from injury. But why is? The answer is all down to the optimisation of the circulation. The unique aspect of the Physiotherm Principle is that it promotes the body core temperature to rise by 0.2C resulting in greatly enhanced blood flow throughout the entire body without the physiological stress response that accompanies other heat treatments.

World leading heat therapy specialist Dr Ralf Kleef says  “Recent research has established that Infrared Radiation significantly accelerates the regeneration time of athletes… The main physiologic effects are deep relaxation, optimization of the microcirculation, effective reduction of edema, acceleration of healing processes after micro-fiber cracks in muscles, tendons and tissues… During training and competition times, daily Infrared exposures are recommended. Favorable time points are immediately up to one day following peak physical activities. Also, short exposure during the warm up periods is also recommended.

However, the benefits are not just for young professional athletes because the micro-trauma that professional sportsmen impact on their bodies is actually very similar to the long term age related damage that our bodies experience with normal wear and tear over time. And as such the benefits of improved healing are similar for older people as well as the young and active. One example of this a client who runs daily:
“As a 40 year old runner I suffered with sore leg muscles and joints. Since I have been using the Physiotherm Sauna approx 3 times a week I have been impressed from day one. The injuries that you pick up as a runner had been reduced dramatically… My running times have increased and my legs feel great, plus I gain all the other benefits of the Sauna and look forward to jumping in after a stressful day at work.”    Peter W. Birmingham.

So if you are suffering yourself with aches and pains and recurring injury we highly recommend that you step up the level of sessions to a minimum of 2-3 per week and ensure you maximise your bodies ability to heal itself. This is especially important during the cold winter months when you are more likely to injure yourself due to reduced blood circulation and colder muscles.

The discovery of infrared as a total body therapy system
From accident victim to world leader in infrared therapy

Luis Schwarzenberger
Founder of Physiotherm Infrared Saunas

Luis Schwarzenberger suffered the nightmare of every enthusiastic alpine skier. He plunged four meters down a deep ravine, surviving a double vertebrae fracture. Schwarzenberger was just millimeters away from becoming a full paraplegic.

It seemed that an operation was unavoidable, however it was a risky procedure with the opportunity for mistakes that could lead to paralysis. This nature-loving sportsman decided that wasn’t worth the risk and began seeking a more natural, less invasive way to recover his health.

At about this time, Schwarzenberger had a friend who practiced alternative medicine. He suggested treatment using infrared heat to help heal the injury. Schwarzenberger did his own research on the effects of infrared on the body and decided that this was his next best option.

Starting with heat treatment from an infrared lamp for 18 hours per day, Schwarzenberger found the results were astounding. Not only did he begin to feel better after only a few days but, as time passed, the pain he suffered also began to recede, the tension in his back subsided and the bruising disappeared completely. His mobility returned and, in a little over three weeks after the accident, he was on his feet again. This was an incredible result for a keen alpine skier facing the prospect of never being able to enjoy his sport again, let alone a comfortable and healthy life!

Following his recovery, Schwarzenberger decided to see if he could find a way to make this treatment system easily available for everyone else. After an extensive process of research and development and work with a Tyrolean infrared scientist, Schwarzenberger created a sauna incorporating the infrared therapy system.

Physiotherm is now the leading Infrared sauna manufactuer in Europe. You could say that Luis Schwarzenberger is realizing his dream of making infrared heat therapy available to everyone.

Physiotherm Sauna Tip of the Month:
It only takes 30 minutes in a Physiotherm Infrared sauna to get the same workout as a 30 minute run.

Research by NASA in the 1980’s led to the conclusion that infrared stimulation of cardiovascular function would be the ideal way to maintain cardiovascular conditioning in American astronauts during long space flights.

You may not be training to be an astronaut, however we recommend you use a Physiotherm sauna at least once or twice a week for 30 minutes each time to achieve the best long-term health benefits for your body.

Now that sounds so much more relaxing than going for a run!
